Seeach Sod was the very first special-needs institution in Israel to offer cranial therapies to its students. Perpetuating the legacy of his father Rabbi Dov Levy z”l to spare no efforts in improving the lives of individuals with special needs, Seeach Sod CEO, Rabbi Shimon Levy, introduced this unique therapy, which enhances the physical and intellectual functionality of many Seeach Sod students.
First introduced in 1970, this method in now employed by more than 100,000 therapists around the world. The general term for this treatment method is craniosacral therapy and is defined as an holistic treatment that improves the flow of cerebrospinal fluid between the brain and spinal cord. The therapy consists of gentle palpations on the skull’s bones and has been proven to effect significant improvement in motor skills, concentration ability, eye contact and other areas. Until recently, this treatment was administered only by private practitioners; now, this treatment is incorporated in the therapy programs at the Maon Tzur daycare center and Ganei Eshkol preschools. The treatment is performed by Dr. Shmuel Berger, a physiotherapist who is regarded as one of the top therapists in the craniosacral field.
Dr. Berger has been working together with naturopath, William Livingstone, to develop a more advanced form of this treatment method. The newer version is called “Cranio-Balance Therapy”.
What is Cranio-Balance Therapy?
- Cranio-Balance Therapy is a unique therapy consisting of gentle, non-invasive palpations that affect all dimensions of the person’s health: physical, mental and emotional.
- The method is a sophisticated integration of various therapy methods, namely craniosacral therapy based on John E. Upledger’s treatment style, Zero Balancing therapy and Visceral Manipulation.
- Cranio-Balance Therapy helps people improve their lifestyles and boosts the body’s natural healing process.
- The therapists works on identifying, evaluating and balancing the individual’s Cranio-Sacral Mechanism.
- The Cranio-Sacral Mechanism is comprised of the soft tissue and cerebrospinal fluid that cushion the brain and spinal cord, spanning the area from the skull and facial bones (cranium) to the spine’s tail bone (sacrum). This mechanism serves as the body’s core mechanism, upon which all other body functions are based. The cerebrospinal fluid flows in a rhythmic pulse similar to a heartbeat. Just as one can feel his cardiac pulse with his finger, the cranial pulse can also be felt. Similar to the heartbeat, which affects the person’s entire vascular system and vital organs, the cranial pulse has an effect on the entire nervous system and endocrine system.
Benefits of Cranio-Balance Therapy
Cranio-Balance therapy can have a significant positive effect in cases of:
