The day began in an uplifting and spiritual journey as the students visited the gravesites of the righteous in the Galilee, toured ancient synagogues, and soaked up the sun and atmosphere of the Galilee.
Their travels took them to the graves of Rabbi Akiva, Rabbi Yohanan ben Zakkai, the Rambam, landmarks of other spiritual leaders, and after lunch a special davening was held at the tomb of Rabbi Meir Baal Haness. The Yeshiva staff and Rosh Yeshiva explained about the Baal Shem Tov, and shared stories about the ancient cemetery.
Next on the tour was a visit to the gravesite of Shimon Bar Yochai in Meron, from whom the saying, “it is good to trust Rabbi Shimon in times of trouble” is attributed.
The students then traveled to Safed, the capital of the Upper Galilee. Walking through the alleyways and streets of the Old City was fascinating with every turn. Ancient synagogues, hundreds of years old held astounding stories with every stone and rock filled with the fragrance of spirituality. The old stone tiles and steep steps brought history to life as students marveled at the area’s glorious past.
A special dinner was held in the new Mendi’s restaurant accompanied a guest musician who played the guitar. After evening prayers at the tomb of Nachum Ish Gamzu, the yeshiva students returned to Jerusalem where they arrived late at night tired, happy, and satisfied.
