The students brought cotton balls and oil to use for the bonfire lighting, sang together, and enjoyed ice cream bars.
The students of Belibeinu Binah's cheder and yeshivah also celebrated with a bonfire lighting in honor of Rabi Shimon Bar Yochai, singing and dancing and enjoying the Lag Ba'omer event.
In Yeshivah Otzar HaTorah, the students studied the various particulars of Lag Ba'omer and decorated the yeshivah's walls with photos of Meron and the gravesite in preparation for the special day. At the event, the boys emotionally approached the photos of Rabi Shimon Bar Yochai's burial site. They recited Tehillim, and then watched videos of the bonfire-lighting in Meron.
The Lag Ba'omer event at the Yecholot employment program was held under shadow of the shocking tragedy in Meron and in a different format than planned. The young men lit candles in honor of Rabi Shimon and in memory of the casualties. Singers Aharale Samet, Pinchas Pollak and Mendy Brichta sang inspirational songs, accompanied by keyboardist Yanky Engel and clarinetist Shlomo Mintzberg.
The director was honored with the lighting of the bonfire along with the employment program's members. He then spoke about recent events and gave the students chizzuk.
The girls' division of the supported employment program also celebrated Lag Ba'omer with a bonfire lighting and refreshments.
