Rav Elimelech Kornfeld shlita, the rav of the Gra shul in the city and one of the rabbinic leaders of Ramat Beit Shemesh, paid a visit to this unique yeshiva for young men with disabilities. The yeshiva atmosphere and the sounds of Torah learning were prominent as Rav Kornfeld toured and heard about the yeshiva, where the young men receive all of the therapies that they need in a yeshiva environment and while learning Halacha, Mishna, and Gemara.
Rav Kornfeld was honored with affixing the mezuza, after which Rabbi Shimon Levy, CEO of Seeach Sod, told him about the progress made in writing a sefer Torah for the yeshiva. “Decades of experience at Seeach Sod have demonstrated the revolution that has taken place in our community. After years of lack of awareness, due to our campaigns and intensive exposure, the community is now supportive and involved – both giving and receiving in the mutually beneficial relationship with Seeach Sod’s clientele. The sefer Torah is yet another milestone in this process. It will make it possible for the yeshiva students to hold proper prayer services, including the Torah reading, just like other boys of their age. It will also establish the yeshiva as a magnet for the community, following the model of Seeach Sod’s activities in Jerusalem.”
Rav Kornfeld responded with words of encouragement: “How wonderful it is that you, my dear young men, merit to learn Torah! The Torah raises every individual to high levels, and a sefer Torah represents this. It is a merit for every member of the community to be a partner in the writing of the sefer Torah, and it is a particular merit for us, the Beit Shemesh community, that you have come to learn Torah in our midst.”
