Seeach Sod Students Facilitate an Interactive Fair for Children from Regular Schools!

It was a touching image: hundreds of sweet children from regular preschools marching excitedly through the doors of Seeach Sod, the popular special ed. center that turned into a special attraction! The photos of smiling children from the community, clearly having the time of their life interacting with the special students of Seeach Sod, encapsulate the essence of true integration!

Seeach Sod wrapped up a successful school year by putting up a fair presenting this year’s learning theme: “Chavayeda” – which means “Learning through Fun”. Throughout the week of June 24 – 27, hundreds of preschool children enjoyed interactive, educational activities at the Live it up & Learn Fair. The children learned all about the subject of “Directions” through a variety of activities that included auditory and visual stimulation, movement, tempo, sensation and listening skills.

The Live it up & Learn Fair was a carefully planned project, culminating a successful year that focused on “Learning through Fun”. The success of the “Learning through Fun” program planted the seeds for sharing this concept with children from the community. Seeach Sod’s CEO Rabbi Shimon Levy, who encouraged and supervised the “Learning through Fun” Program, said the touching picture of integration says it all and shows how far we’ve come in raising the status of children with special needs amidst the community. “I was deeply moved to see children from regular schools and preschools leaving Seeach Sod with big smiles on their faces, holding balloons and treats given to them by our students. In my eyes, this picture embodies what we’ve succeeded in achieving: Special children who take pride in their school and in their abilities and feel honored to share their experiences with regular society!”

Preschool teachers who brought their classes to the fair expressed their amazement at the creativity and hard work that was invested in the Live it up & Learn Fair. “You can tell there’s a very experienced and dedicated staff behind this,” said Rena K., a teacher in a local kindergarten.

Among the many activities, the children enjoyed: viewing a video introducing the topic of “Directions”, preparing popcorn and slush according to diagrammed instructions, an activity with flashlights in a darkened room, rhythmic movement activity in a Gymboree room, a 3D maze on the balcony, and creating a craft following oral signals via earphones.

A special Information Center was set up, to provide professionals including, teachers, pedagogical coordinators, educational directors and therapists, with information and practical ideas on how to promote “Learning through Fun”.

The Live it up & Learn Fair provided Seeach Sod’s students with the incredible opportunity to host and entertain children from the community! And the visitors? They definitely lived it up and learned a lot!
