Special Chanukah Activities

At Seeach Sod, you never have to guess the date – you can sense it through the activities! This is certainly true on Chanukah, when the abundance of holiday-related activities combined for a truly exciting week.

The following is only partial list of what went on here over Chanukah:

Putting Beit Shemesh on the Map: The Beit Shemesh program held a festive Chanukah party, with delicious food, great music, and a special atmosphere. The biggest surprise? The participation of the mayor of Beit Shemesh, Rav Moshe Abutbul, who delivered a speech and who celebrated together with staff and students.

Women’s Vocational Program Party at Big Bite: The women participated in a special program, which encouraged them to continue their efforts in going to work each day. The party provided an opportunity for the women to meet friends who work in other places, whom they see only infrequently.

Maoz Yerushalayim Keeps Giving: Continuing the theme of the month of Kislev – giving to others through the kis (pocket) and the lev (heart) – the theme of the Chanukah celebration was “a little bit of light.” When you compliment and encourage others, it creates light and happiness in your own heart!

Chanukah in our Apartments: In addition to all of the parties, the spirit of Chanukah was felt in the apartments, where Chanukah candles were lit, songs were sung, and there were Chanukah decorations and food.

Otzar Yerushalayim – The Victory of the Maccabees: The themes of the battle between light and darkness was emphasized throughout the week through signs in the hallways and preparations for the Chanukah party. During the party, each group presented a part in the play – the Greeks, those learning Torah in the caves, the victory of the Maccabees, finding the flask of oil, and lighting the menorah.

The Party that Didn’t Happen: And then there was the party that didn’t happen… A group of women from the apartment on Rosenblatt St. were very excited in anticipation of their party, but they were told that it would be postponed due to the passing of Rav Shteinman zt”l. The women responded with tremendous maturity, declaring that everything is for the good. They had a party in their apartment, with a pleasant homey atmosphere, which they themselves prepared.

Chanukah Party at Otzar Yerushalayim: The annual Chanuka party was held in Yeshivat Otzar Yerushalayim, attended by rabbinic and public figures who came to bring joy to our students. We were honored by the attendance of the great tzaddik Rav Gamliel Rabinowitz, who danced with the students for a full hour, told them about the miracle of Chanukah, and emphasized the importance of every young man who learns in Seeach Sod. Each student received “Chanuka gelt” and a special Chanukah doughnut.
