Activities for 7 Chesvan – When We Begin to Pray for Rain

Winter is in the air in the nursery classes, where students are learning about the fall, the leaves falling from the trees, and the longed-for rain!

The children cut out leaves and glued them to the large tree hanging on the wall. They also decorated “Mashiv HaRuach” posters, and they learned about different aspects of the winter – warm clothing, wind, rain, and clouds. May everyone have a healthy winter!

In honor of 7 Chesvan, the day when we begin to insert the request for rain in our daily prayers, students at Otzar Yerushalayim participated in a day of educational and experiential fun on the topic of rain.

Each class chose a verse or saying relating to water and they illustrated it in a raindrop. All of the raindrops presently decorate the walls of the school, creating a wintery atmosphere!

Each class presented its saying, and the students received a symbol to help illustrate some of the ideas. For example, to illustrate the phrase, “Like water, one face reflects another,” each student received a mirror, demonstrating that the way that I interact with others is the way that they will interact with me.

The program was accompanied with songs about the winter, and each student left with a “Tein Tal UMatar” bookmark to put in the appropriate place in their siddur so that they won’t forget to add the special prayer.
